Abstract

Despite the growing popularity of e-banking, payments in Switzerland are still initiated using payment slips. This process requires a lot of manual typing (recipient information, amount, payment reference) in an otherwise automated process.
To automate this process, there is third party hardware available that can read the coding line printed on the (popular) orange payment slips, which contains an account number, a reference number and the payment amount. However such solutions require separate hardware and are priced at CHF 100 to 200, which might prevent a potential user from choosing them.
The goal of this project was to develop a smartphone app to achieve the same results, while keeping the entry barriers as low as possible.
